Job Details
The Shipping Specialist is responsible for the daily packaging and shipping of knock-down and assembled fabricated products, as well as receiving operations in a just-in-time fabrication shop. The Shipping Specialist may also assist with other key tasks as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review daily shipping schedules to identify items for shipment.
- Inventory and verify all parts and fabricated components required for shipping orders.
- Inspect finished products for quality, dimensions, and cosmetic appearance using certified tools like tape measures or calipers.
- Log errors, notify Leads of remakes, and affix appropriate certification labels.
- Package products for damage-free transit using proper methods, including building crates if necessary.
- Weigh, photograph, and label shipments with order numbers; complete and submit carrier documentation nightly.
- Load shipments safely and securely on designated carriers.
- Receive, verify, and store incoming goods; maintain shipping department inventories and supplies.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate shipment preparation.
- Inspect, maintain, and report deficiencies in tools and equipment.
- Keep the work area clean and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
- Adhere to industry, UL, Intertek, and company policies and procedures, particularly safety.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy of all products within 1/32” unless specified otherwise.
- Inspect all work for material type, gauge, and specifications.
- Perform tasks only within your scope of training or experience.
Qualifications
- Basic dimensional measuring and shop math skills.
- Ability to read and understand shop cut sheets and drawings.
- Proficiency in basic carpentry and use of tools.
- Strong safety and quality orientation.
- Dependability, punctuality, and excellent attendance.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 80 lbs frequently.
- Frequent squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Tolerate a 40-100°F work environment while standing and walking for up to 10 hours per day.
- Wear necessary protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes and hearing/vision protection.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Vo-Tech training or at least 3 years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or carpentry.
- Certified forklift operator.
